I loved, LOVED this book as a child
Tumblr media
I'm not Jewish... as a child I didn't realize the people in the book were Jewish (I just saw them as grandfather and grandchild).
Recognizing now that it's a Jewish story fills me with joy, it's such a wonderful story! The Jewish community has some amazing storytellers.
(AND THE AAAARRRRTTTT OMG)

I'm sorry I can't take your call right now, I'm becoming unhinged about Transformers again,,,
#i just. man#first of all i was super into it when i was younger. optimus prime has long been a projectable (and ratchet tooā€š from tfp)#but even that's like more recent. when i was SEVEN i was running around in circles to the transformers 1980 theme and re-binging the movie#(autism? what? who? where? but fr it was like a daily thing p much where me and my brothers would just lose it to that song. good ol' days)#transformers#for the search function lol. anyways back to the ramble: the obsession started young and continued throughout my teenage years#the transformers prime version was ABSOLUTELY peak and clears every time. still SO good my brothers and i binged the heck out of that too#but i don't think we ever got to watch the movie??? or maybe it was season 3??? either way i remember being like WHAT OPTIMUS IS EVIL???#and never getting resolution which i still need to do (also reminding me of clone wars...never did finish that one and still not spoiled)#anyway yeah the nintendo 3DS transformers prime game was yet another staple of my childhood. fave main was optimus obvs#but it just fills me with joy to see the resurgence in this and also makes me feel some complex emotions because it's a part of little me#and that version of me feels like so long ago...my own orion pax in a way#11-year-old me checking out giant lore books and speeding through them (i need to find this one book!! it's been years!!#it was the first transformers tome i ever read and told the story of orion pax!! and i vaguely remember the cover? but not the title! help!)#ANYway yes just feeling a lot of feelings and. i love transformers#kay can i just catch my breath for a second#kay has a party in the tags#also if you're reading this: i voted and you should too!!!

me after attempting to get back into sims and realizing i had a lot more to do than play the game
#hi everyone#Iā€™m going around hugging you all#okay now that we are gathered here today#i will simply acknowledge that i have been gone for a very long time and then also acknowledge that maybe it was for the best#i relied on sims to be my only creative activity even if i tried to write a book at the same time#and also. i prioritized sims over real life responsibilities. thatā€™s just a deadly combination lol#but I recently noticed I just replaced sims with Netflix. with YouTube. with anything that gave me quick dopamine#literally became addicted in a sense. still am but Iļæ½ļæ½ļæ½ve been cut cold turkey from most everything#I get off work and go. okay Iā€™ve done the dishes and the laundryā€¦ā€¦..I could read or write or bakeā€¦.#I try to write and sometimes i get a good hour#then I read for a few hours and then get tired of it#and I made cookies Tuesday so Iā€™m waiting for those to be gone before baking again#Iā€™m just so pitiful that I feel BORED and donā€™t know what to do#so I saidā€¦.. okay what if I do sims for an hour.#I downloaded some new cc Tuesday and tried to play yesterday#yā€™all ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦ā€¦.. I canā€™t find the energy anymore to set up elaborate scenes and pose my sims and plan posts#I said wowā€¦ this is boring without my intervention and fake story#I said wowā€¦ā€¦.. all this for what? for tumblr? yes I created cool things and provided joy. but is that inherintly important compared to my#own joy? my own everyday activities I should be doing?#yā€™all I do not leave the house unless we got out to eat or shop or travel to our parents#.. I have little desire to. Iā€™m trying to find that desire#but my husband is busy with grad school and work and I donā€™t want to do anything by myself#Iā€™ve found myself in one heck of a slump#I didnā€™t want to be human for awhile. just had no desires no interests no ambitions#I was slacking off SO HARD at work. I just had no drive to do well#Iā€™m still working on it. Iā€™m still trying to get caught up. Iā€™m still trying to force myself to move every day.#but I am struggling yā€™all. and I can tell you that simsā€¦ sims isnā€™t helping rn but I want it to so bad. I want to get back into it#I didnā€™t mean to disappear on everyone. I got married and then life got busy and then I fell into this hole of nothing#I didnā€™t even WANT to crawl my way out. but my husband has helped a lot. I feel like such a child!!!!#I reached max tags. šŸ™ƒ bye love you all. till next time

Honestly I'm also not fully happy with what they did with Whis this book
#morningtalks#asc spoilers#Not like they gave Whistlepaw a lot of screentime at all despite how relevant WindClan was all of a sudden#(nooooo that had to go to Crowfeather. Not like he's got enough attention with TNP + PO3 + his super edition + deputyship + TBC#+ Changing Skies now too. Noooooooooooooooooooo we really can't have a single other cat in WindClan be important)#At least Whis had an excuse. Making Additional Content for another book that readers have to buy and be USELESS in that book#But Whistlebreeze?#Out of all the fun names you could've chosen. Whistlebreeze?#At least it's not Whistlepelt or Whistleheart#But really? Whistlebreeze?#I find it boring honestly#It's obviously a me thing. I'm obviously going to take Whis' name more seriously than most because I draw that damned cat Every Single Day#But there were so many possibilities for really poetic and pretty names#But they stuck with the simple option. Whistlebreeze#I obviously wanted Whistlebird#But with Ivypool's Therapy Session you could've made an argument for Whistlestorm#Even if it doesn't sound good at all. The two 't' s really don't make for a good name#But it would've been better than Whistlebreeze as far as I'm concerned#-breeze as a suffix can be cute and I like it but it has little to do with Whis aside from WindClan#Whistlebird neither but it sounds fun and has a rare suffix#Obviously Whistlefrost would've been hilarious#Heck. I just thought about Whistlecreek. Kinda odd but could be a more discrete hommage to Frostdawn as a RiverClan cat#(Frostdawn is a good name tho. Pissed she's back to being a healer but Frostdawn is good at least)#I also love the -berry suffix but with Berryheart just being a nuisance it would've been a very stupid decision here#But I'm just annoyed that they went with Whistlebreeze. It's boring. It's kinda pretty yeah but it adds nothing#It says ''Whis is a WindClan cat.''#Whistle- is a hard prefix to work with. The 't' and 'l' at the end makes it nearly impossible for a good amount of suffixes#Because they wouldn't sound good. (Any occlusive or lateral would've been horrendous. That's why Whistlelight sounds bad. Too many L's)#Whistlebreeze does sound nice at least but again it's bland and I am disappointed and really they could've done so much#With this name. Whistle is a difficult prefix but it offers so much poetic potential

I must say, it's pretty poetic that I've gotten to season 6 of Vampire Diaries right before another solar eclipse happens in America. I certainly didn't plan it, but it does feel like my timing is very appropriate with this one. I do have questions about the accuracy of the eclipse portrayal in the show, though. I mean, a solar eclipse did in fact happen on May 10, 1994, and it was visible across much of the country, so that much is accurate. But I don't think Mystic Falls would've had quite as good of a view as they show it having. For reference, here's a map of the May 1994 eclipse path (credit: timeanddate.com):
Tumblr media
And, if you'll remember, Mystic Falls is like two hours from my old hometown just a stone's throw north of Lynchburg, Virginia, as seen on the locator spell map (this one's all over tumblr, forgive me for not remembering what blog I grabbed it from):
Tumblr media
So if you zoom in on the timeanddate map and pick somewhere closeish to there:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It looks like Mystic Falls would be getting a little over 77% coverage or so. It's also worth noting that the '94 eclipse was an annular eclipse, not a total eclipse like tomorrow's eclipse. That still means that the moon went directly in front of the sun, but it does mean that it was small enough/far enough from earth that you didn't quite get full coverage of the sun (thanks to weather.gov for the nifty graphic):
Tumblr media
So, I'm not positive whether it would've looked quite as dark as was shown in the show:
Tumblr media
Although, I must admit, in this video I found on youtube of the '94 eclipse, (part of me is shocked to find footage from then but I know I shouldn't be like yes they had cameras in the 90s) it actually looks more similar than I expected it to look, but I imagine it was most likely filmed within the path of totality:
youtube
But also, when Kai takes Bonnie to Portland, don't they see the eclipse again there? I couldn't find that clip on youtube just now, but Portland barely had any eclipse--only 42-43% coverage, so it would've been way milder of a visual effect, barely any dimming in the sky noticeable without eclipse glasses.
Tumblr media
The funny thing is, the area where I live is going to be sitting right around 80% coverage tomorrow. I was lucky enough to get to travel to Missouri for the 2017 eclipse to get into the path of totality, but I'm afraid that it hasn't worked out for me to do so this year, which is immensely disappointing to me as an astronomy enjoyer, but I do still plan to go to an eclipse party and I'm going to start saving to try and get to Spain for the next total eclipse in 2026, which is going to be right around my 30th birthday (screaming). Anyways, it isn't great, but here's my best picture from the '17 eclipse:
Tumblr media
I didn't even have a smartphone yet then, because despite it being 2017, I was somewhat of a luddite, so I had the purple flip phone I so stubbornly clung to and a point-and-click Nikon, but I still think this picture is pretty cool for what it is. Here's the zoom in so you can really see that ring of fire (and my shaking hands doubling the image):
Tumblr media
Obviously you can find thousands of better eclipse pictures online, but that one's still special to me because it's mine. Anyways, I'll report back with smart phone pictures from whatever I see of the 80% total eclipse tomorrow to compare and contrast with Mystic Falls's 70% annular eclipse of the 90s, because from what I've heard it's going to be much less impressive than full totality was, but I've yet to watch a partial solar eclipse, so I'll just have to find out. Also, if you happen to have any vampiric loved ones trapped in a magical prison dimension who you need help freeing during the eclipse tomorrow, let me know and I'll see what I can do! ;) Hahaha. Anyways, happy eclipse everyone, and may we all possess sufficient self restraint to avoid eye damage (says the woman who has looked at the sun unprotected so many times and is probably going to go blind because of it some day. I know what I've done lol. Don't be me.)
#posts where I actually feel like I'm using my blog as a blog#Solar Eclipse#Solar Eclipse 2024#Solar Eclipse 1994#The Vampire Diaries#TVD 6x02#is where the screenshot's from specifically#Damon Salvatore#Bonnie Bennett#Eclipse History#nerding out over the eclipse in the vampire show#it's also funny to me how two eclipses in my lifetime are so close to my birthday. I think it probably means I have magical powers ;)#May 10 1994#that's two years and change before I was born#April 8 2024#I'm so tempted to ditch all my responsibilities and drive south to totality but it's an 8 hour drive and I'd have to leave at like 4am#if it was a 4-5 hour drive to totality I'd do it. but I think a 16 hour round trip would kill me and I didn't have the good sense to plan#or book a hotel in advance or anything and everything in totality will be booked up for sure. and tonight is the night I would need to be#in a hotel anyways so. missed that boat. I mean I could go now and just drive through the night. but ugh. I just. ugh. I can but I can't yk#anyways everybody says that the Vampire Diaries writing quality drops off around here but I'm still loving it so far#it's incredibly frustrating sometimes but like. it knows how to give me The Feels(tm) and so I'll let it jerk me around all it wants#I would personally prolly want to stay in the prison world for at least a little bit to get to enjoy that eclipse from a bunch of angles th#like that's a rad as heck day to get trapped on imho. Love me a good eclipse#i ramble#even in the tags I ramble#Youtube

...BIG FEELS AND BIG PLOT DEVELOPMENTS AT THE END OF THAT BOOK, HUH
#Tyto reads WoF#i know it's not the most pressing issue what with the vengeful ex-Queen and the murderous sister and all#but I still want to point out how alarming it is that the new crew are all going to be wearing seemingly radioactive rocks as jewelry now#Turtle please don't pick up strange rocks that give off their own heat for the love of all that's good#ANYWAY yeah what the actual frick is going on with Darkstalker huh. I genuinely do NOT know whether he's trustworthy or not#desperately lonely and unfairly demonized? absolutely. truly cares about Moon as a friend? I think so.#capable of integrating peacefully into modern dragon society without letting his own ego turn him into the monster he denies ever being?#....... šŸ˜¬ remains to be seen#god and there's Scarlet's mysterious new accomplice(?) with the maddeningly vague physical description and also THE SCROLL(!!!!)#and i just realized we failed to get resolutions in this book for EITHER the vision of Turtle attacking Anemone OR#Flame's unique and frightening ability to sense and/or attack mindreaders????#where the HECK are we going with Flame I am going lowkey INSANE over him#ugh frick and Umber and Sora are both on the run too...!! this book is nearly as cliffhangery as Dark Secret#(though thankfully i prepared for this by checking the next book out ahead of time so i wouldn't have to wait LOL)#uhh buhh final thoughts before i force myself to go to sleep:#I love Moon and everything going on with her but I do feel like on some level it's even more of a slap in the face for poor Starflight#that the only tribe to get multiple POV characters in this first. like. extended arc(?) appears to be the NightWings#and Starflight himself doesn't get any of the tribe's unique defining features or abilities#i mean i guess the same is sort of true of Sunny and yes i know it was the POINT of book 4 that the tribe had no powers#but still idk it just feels like kicking the poor boy when he's already down. in addition to him literally getting beaten up again#(... now watch me be a total fool and the arc actually extends past book 8 or something making this point moot lol)#(I'm only assuming it ends at 8 bc that's where the previews in the back of the previous books have stopped)#EDIT: LOL yep turns out this arc does extend out to book 10 and the other POVs are Turtle and Qibli so I stand corrected.#that's what I get for nightblogging

Recently I made a post saying that The Blue Castle book is a proof that you can have a heroine choosing her own path and still have her love interest come to her rescue when it's needed.
Now I see people on Twitter talking about the new upcoming live action Snow White and apparently Disney almost did away with the romance, the prince appears for a very short time only (I presume this is correct, idk anything about this). Fans are not happy and I get why. It's like you can either be an empowered woman or have a love story. Do they think empowered women can't have romance in their life?
The Blue Castle can be looked at as a Cinderella-type story, but there are other good examples in literature that feature a strong heroine and a guy who does a good deed for her. Take Anne of Green Gables. Gilbert gives up Avonlea school for Anne, so she can stay with Marilla, and he does this while they're not even on speaking terms. Mr Darcy sorts out the Lydia/Wickham mess without wanting Elizabeth to know about it, and this was after she rejected his proposal. Mr Thornton, of North and South, covers up for Margaret, saving her from a potential criminal charge--again, after she had rejected his proposal (someone on Goodreads called North and South "The Pride and Prejudice for Socialists").
It's not a crime for a dude to do something of service for you and neither is falling in love. I like that there are romance-less Disney films (Frozen obviously) but that doesn't mean we have to get rid of all romance! You know my favourite saying? Both is good.

Casual Warrior Cats mention; I think Ivypool's Heart is the single worst piece of literature they have produced to date, and the series desperately needs a reboot. They have created a situation where normal death means nothing because there's an afterlife and everyone knows for sure there's an afterlife, so death largely means nothing. The fact that they've already had to resort to killing ghosts to have any impact, and that the characters have no concept of true grief or loss unless this happens is ludicrous. So we get an entire book about a cat actually grieving because their daughter was one of the unlucky few to truly be lost, and it's an absolute waste of time because they went about it in the worst way. Never mind the fact that they literally invented a clan out of thin air, and showed other ghost cats unfading! What are even the rules anymore??

Didn't rip out the heart of a certain someone during a certain questline. So, upon reporting back to TharaĆŖl afterward, it ended up looking like he just chucked a book right at Jade's head in dissatisfaction the second she entered the front hideout's door.
This is my official Enderal canon now. This is just the type of relationship they have.

Alright guys, Iā€™ve got something to talk about cuz the dream I had last night reminded me of it and made me nostalgic for being a kid
When I was little, around 9-14-ish, I was really, really obsessed with this cute little book series written by the Geronimo Stilton author, the Chronicles of the Kingdom of Fantasy, and as you guys know, Iā€™m very Dutch, so I read all of the books plus the sequel series in Dutch. And let me tell you, it shaped so much of my early teenage years personality and my love for fantasy and I never even dared to talk about that part of my life cuz it seemed ā€œcringeā€.
Iā€™ll give a summary of the series here, cuz I donā€™t really think any of my followers have read it due to it not being translated to their language or just... not knowing it existed.
The Chronicles of the Kingdom of Fantasy (de Kronieken van Fantasia in Dutch and Cronache del Regno Della Fantasia in its original language, which is Italian) is a sweet, Lord of the Rings-escue series about a young elf, Ombroso (which is his Italian name, heā€™s called Saturno in the Dutch version), a 15-year-old refugee from the Land of the Woodelves who had been stranded in the Land of the Star-elves when he was just four years old after a devastating war in his own country. He has grown up as the adoptive son of astrologist Eridanus, who himself had two kids with his now-deceased wife, Mizram - currently 16-year-old Regulus and 13-year-old Spica.
In an effort to save his people and find the birth parents he canā€™t remember, Ombroso, after receiving a few items from Eridanus which had been stowed away for years until the boy was ready, travels into the Land of the Woodelves through a magical gate linking the two countries together (itā€™s a whole thing), taking Regulus with him cuz the power of bros is vast enough to do anything. Spica wanted to come, but apparently misogyny is still a thing in this medieval fantasy kingdom (and sheā€™s. literally 13), so the boys leave her at home.
Pretty scarring shenanigans ensue, Ombroso and Reg find the Land of the Woodelves rotten, overtaken by evil creatures serving the Queen of Witches, who, unbeknownst to them, is currently trying to overtake the entire Kingdom of Fantasy. Ombroso learns his mother, Acacia, died while giving birth to him and his father, a mysterious man named Cuortenace (Sterkhart in Dutch, I honestly donā€™t know if they reveal his past right away in the first book. Every detail from this has melted together in my brain), hasnā€™t been seen for years. Few think heā€™s actually still alive. Ombroso also learns (or remembers, I donā€™t know) his real name is Audace (Dappart in Dutch) and that the name he usually goes by is just a nickname.
The boys meet Robinia, the former princess of the Woodelves whose older brother had actually sold her and her people to the Queen of Witches for a reason I canā€™t remember. Probably cuz of money or power. Sheā€™s 14 years old and really salty her people are suffering, so she doesnā€™t really like Ombroso and Regulus, but eventually warms up to them.
In the meantime, Spica also does shenanigans. She does a dreamily lovesick dreaming about Ombroso cuz she like-likes him and decides to go against his wishes and help him, cuz heā€™s totally lost without her. Girlboss, I actually looked up to Spica so much as a kid. Now I just think, ā€œwho let a 13 year old kid do war crimes???ā€.
She meets Stellarius, a grumpy old Gandalf-y wizard who goes by many names. He had actually come for Ombroso, to guide him through his journey, but takes one look at this kid and decides she probably has more braincells than a 15-year-old boy heā€™s never met before, so he decides sheā€™ll come with him to the Land of the Woodelves to assist Ombroso in his heroā€™s journey. He informs her that, before they can go, they first need to do their own little thing and defeat the evil bats that have come through the magical gate into the Land of the Star elves - he enchants Spicaā€™s bow and they go do the murder of bats.
I honestly donā€™t really... remember what happens next. I know Ombroso gets an enchanted sword and finds out about a prophesy in which a Sword, a Bow, a Goose and a Dragon would defeat the Evil Witch and do things, which is super obvious to everyone, even the main characters. He also meets a Hunter, who calls himself Hunter, cuz heā€™s a Hunter. I donā€™t think heā€™s really that creative as we meet him again later and he changes his name to Knight, cuz heā€™s... a Knight. Um. Yeah.
Ombroso nearly dies at some point, but donā€™t worry, he does that a lot. He and his new and old friends get the Land of Woodelves back and Ombroso and Spica, reunited and all, decide to fulfill the prophecy and journey through the realms to find a magic Goose and a Dragon to complete the quartet and defeat the Queen of Witches. Regulus and Robinia join them, same with Stellarius and Robiniaā€™s little pet dragon(?), whose name I unfortunately forgot.
They travel to the kingdom of dwarfs through another magical gate in the second book, where they do a liberation of the people and need to find the next magical gate. Also, Ombroso had this really hot moment in this book which was kinda Little Monaā€™s first introduction to dominant fictional characters ever, which, um. Yeah. You see where Iā€™m going with this. They also find the Goose in this one, a dwarf girl named Favilla (Spranka in Dutch) who got enchanted into a goose after escaping the Queen of Witches, who thought she was to bring her doom because of another prophesy. They take her with them through the gate!
In the third book, they go to a sorta swamp realm, which isnā€™t really fun for anyone. This one is my favorite, but apparently I donā€™t own the book, which absolutely sucks. They also get seperated from Stellarius in this one and for the first time ever, the teens have to rely on themselves. This one has a lot of inner conflict and some character development, mainly for Ombroso and Spica, and completes the prophecy quartet in the form on Codamozza (Halvestaart in Dutch, which means Half-Tail), a locked up Dragon Ombroso frees and befriends. At the end, Spica, Regulus, and Robinia get captured by the evil minions of the Queen of Witches and brought to her, seperating them from from Ombroso, Codamozza and Favilla. I donā€™t remember what Stellarius is doing, ngl.
The fourth book features the wrap up of the series, in which the prophecy comes to life and this part of the adventure ends. Spica, who is a storyteller and inspires herself and the other captured creatures in the Land of the Witches, gets taken before the Queen and drugged (um, yeah, they drug a 13-year-old. It gets really dark in this part) for them to tell them her stories, I donā€™t remember why. Robinia and Regulus lead a rebellion and meet up with the Hunter/the Knight and Stellarius, while Ombroso and Favilla go into the castle, where they reunite with Spica (who had been saved by a mysterious woman named Anguilla (Aaltje in Dutch), who Favilla had grown up with and lost contact with. Sheā€™s distant, however, and only interested in taking the Queen down.
In the final battle the Hunter/the Knight steps into the scene, breaking into the throneroom through the glass window on Codamozzaā€™s back. He reveals himself to be a Knight of the Old Order of Knights of the Rose and Ombrosoā€™s long lost father, Cuortenace. However, he sacrifices himself to save Spica and gets turned to stone by the Queen.
I donā€™t remember how, but the quartet defeats the Queen in one last effort to succeed. The kingdom celebrates and Ombroso, upset about the loss of his father, asks the Fairy Queen, the one who had chosen him to defeat the Queen of Witches so many years ago, his patron, to please turn him back to flesh and blood. The Fairy Queen doesnā€™t have that power however, and tells him he has to go to his fatherā€™s place of origin, the abandoned Island of the Knights, to restore it in its honor and place its crest back in its right place. Only then, his father and all the other people who had been turned to stone on the Island itself (cuz that happened but I totally forgot about it) would return to their former selves.
This brings us to the last two books of the series, 5 and 6, which shows how Ombroso, Spica and Codamozza, one year after the events of the final book, travel to the Island of the Knights and restore it in its former glory. Itā€™s a bit weaker than the first four books, but it wraps the series up well enough so almost no loose ends are left around.
It does have a sequel series made up of four books, in which a new set of characters, who are the next generation of Knights from the new order Ombroso had build after the events of the first series. We see some small snippets of the old characters, who are around ten to fifteen years older than they were in the original, but it doesnā€™t tell us much about what happened to them except from what type of job they did. Itā€™s a fun series, but I really wouldā€™ve preferred the older characters to be a bit more inserted into the plot.
As I said before, I read this series as a kid, from when I was around 9, up until I was around 14. The first book had been published in 2008, when I was 5, which - holy shit. Thatā€™s 15 years ago. This book is old. I mean, no wonder it meant so much to me as a kid. By the time I had started reading them, the final one had just been released and it was one of my first introductions into my beloved fantasy-heroā€™s journey type of story.
Ombroso was a great hero for something like this and kinda defied the odds of the usual ā€œchosen onesā€ in other media. He was a bit broody, shy, couldnā€™t act well around people for a good portion of his life, and moody, so, so moody. His nickname by the Star Elves had been chosen because he just. Refused to smile as a kid. And it just concerned the other elves he lived with. He had his badass moments, really, and his personality made for a great dynamic with the siblings Regulus and Spica. They were so bubbly, so friendly, and while Ombroso wasnā€™t actively the voice of reason between them, he was the one who strutted behind them with his hands in his pockets and head in the clouds.
Regulus was more of a voice of reason, in typical older brother behaviour. He and Ombroso had this really sweet understanding with each other, and Ombroso viewed him more as a sibling, while viewing Spica as more of a friend, despite growing up with her. The three of them got along so well and looking back on it as an adult, I just feel so protective over these three. Theyā€™re so dear to my heart, partly due to them being so young and due to them being the characters who Iā€™ve literally aged out of after having had them be older than me for years. They go through so much and honestly, if this series had been marketed differently, it wouldā€™ve passed as a YA-fantasy series. Donā€™t tell me Iā€™m wrong, cuz I know Iā€™m not.
When I was a kid, Spica had always been my favorite character, with her being so spunky, a storyteller, and someone who actively stood up for themselves. She had a huge impact on my development as a young teen, but as I got older and reviewed the series having grown past her age, Regulus became much more dear to my heart. He was a bookworm, so, so friendly, if not a bit loud and outspoken, not having a great filter, and he just felt so... real. Like a real older brother, a real 16-17 year old finding his way in the world and growing away from his home, venturing out into the world. His character was always so grounded and as a more reserved older sister to a rambunctious twin brother, I felt so connected to that. Also, heā€™s a himbo. Heā€™s such a himbo.
Iā€™m not really gonna focus on Robinia, I didnā€™t really connect with her character a whole lot during the series as she was pushed into the background most often during the main series and just,,, completely cut out of the last books, save for a bit in the start and end of the fifth and sixth respectively.
However, what really kept me into this series, was the way my friends from that time reacted to it. Most of us were little girls with a little too much imagination, and my best friend at the time got just as obsessed with it as I did. We played out the books with playmobile figures, talked about everything in it, made original characters and thought about fanfictions we didnā€™t even know was fanfiction. We made an oc who was Ombroso and Spicaā€™s daughter, gave them all families, fantasized about all the wacky things they would get into as adults. It was just fun, thatā€™s all I can say about it. Iā€™ve lost contact with that friend, we grew apart, but sometimes I see her give a like to my posts on instagram, which reminds me of the fun we used to have as kids.
When I went into middle school, I had another friend who was into the series. We wrote down fanfiction and I sometimes wrote stories on the playmobile plays me and my other friend had made a year prior. I made a full-fledged character out of the kid we gave Ombroso and Spica, whom I named Acacia. She was one heck of a fun character and I absolutely loved writing about her, her siblings, her love interest, and of course, her parents. In total, over the years, I wrote around 100,000 words of fanfiction for this series. These books shaped me so heavily, but as it was so unknown and the author behind Geronimo Stilton is known for their more... childish stories, I wasnā€™t taken seriously when I talked about it in school. I remember having done a presentation about the first book in my first year of middle school, totally enthusiastic, and hearing how the Dutch teacher had banned Geronimo Stilton books from being presented from the next year and on. I already was the ā€œweird kidā€ in my class, ahead on the curve, having a bit too much knowledge for my little brain to contain.
Of course a little fantasy series about elves, dragons, a chosen one who was just as much of an outcast as I was and another character I aspired to be more like was gonna be my escape, but as the years passed and I grew up bit by bit, it felt... strange, to be so invested in something that everyone deemed so childish. At the tender age of 14, you do mostly what others expect of you - so I put the books down, stowed them away in a corner of my room where I still knew they were close and could grab onto them any minute, but still far away enough to not realize they were there.
And now Iā€™m 19. Itā€™s been ten years since I first picked up one of the books. Theyā€™re still in that little corner in my room and I feel like Iā€™m finally in a place where I wonā€™t be ashamed or embarrassed if I picked them up again. And really, what harm can it do? What harm can liking a book series made for kids really do me? All it can do, is bring me the joy it brought me when I was a kid myself and take me back to the time where I didnā€™t have college to worry about, where I had a more functional family, where I didnā€™t worry about who I would offend if I spoke too loudly or what my place in the world would be as a woman and an artist.
Iā€™m at the point in my life where I no longer cringe at my former self and her interests; in fact, she was probably a lot bolder than me for liking something that was so dear to her heart so openly.
Maybe itā€™s time I start doing that again.

Had to be around people with no hobbies or passions today. I feel sick
Tumblr media
#Hanging out with friends is not a hobby!!#Go read or draw or bicycle or bake or sew or literally anything#I used to be hesitant to call gaming a hobby#But I've made up my mind#Gaming is as much of a hobby as reading#And at least those obnoxious 11 year olds that obsess over fortnite do SOMETHING#Like I was hanging out with some people my age and they said they just go on social media in their free time#PLEASE PLEASE pick up a book or bake a cake#You'd be surprised by how much fun you have doing fulfilling hobbies instead of nothing at all#I have like 8 different hobbies so I feel weird asking people what they do in their free time and they just say they go on tiktok#Take my hand. I'm going to show you the beautiful world of a search engine. Let's find a book you'll like together#Do you like romance? Comedies? Horror? True crime? Fantasy? Heck wanna read a comic book??#Girl please I'll help you find something. Please just do something with your free time#I say reading as my main suggestion for hobbies#Because there's something for everyone#There's like 4 million books published EACH YEAR#You're bound to find something you'll love#There's even short stories if you don't quite have that long of an attention span. It's okay you can actively work to make it longer#Like of course no one is going to read war and peace or a long series like pjo immediately#But there's lots of shorter books that wrap up in just a hundred pages#This post is not about people who lack motivation due to mental illness. That's another problem entirely#pie won't shut up
